"Beyond Sport" awards; Pride Sports in the running

In a recent issue of the FGG membership newsletter Inclusion, we urged member organizations to consider applying for a Beyond Sports award. We're pleased to learn that Pride Sports has done so, and wish them the best of luck!

Entries remain open until May 1! Why not apply?

Award Entered: Sport Team of the Year
Parent Organisation: Pride Sports
Project Host Nation: United Kingdom

Overview of Project: PrideSports’ Team project is simply effective beyond belief. Called The Miracle of Equality in Sports for All, it puts the achieving into the hearts and heads of participants by getting across the message that connects their team courage to put equality into the heart of sports initiatives. Creativity was crucial, with PrideSports now achieving trust and respect from many sports represented at its annual PrideGames and by running an annual sports equality summit. Sports delegates join in building better relationships by discovering ways to overcome equality barriers.

Various sporting activities arranged by PrideSports enable participants from diverse backgrounds to take part, benefiting from the greater community pride that is shared by all the society, opening sports to all. One of our latest outcomes is a fantastic PrideSports initiative that gained praise from Sir Elton John where a team kit and equality silver trophy, funded by Pride Sports, displayed the slogan “Homophobia: Tackle it” - worn by Sheffield Eagles, a leading rugby team the kit is featured at every rugby match they play. The kit proves how one simple message to tackle hate is effective. PrideSports’ calls for equality messages to be put onto club kit in every televised sport; globally.
